Unit Secretary / Monitor Technician, Progressive Care Unit

Responsibilities:

Complies with PENN HIGHLANDS DUBOIS policies and procedures, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and local law and regulations

Demonstrates competency in Monitor Technician role as evidenced by but not limited to:

  • Performs clerical duties to support the nursing staff and patient care
  • Pays attention to telemetry communication orders and acts upon to facilitate completion
  • Maintains patient records per policy
  • Provides appropriate cleaning of telemetry units upon discontinuation of patient monitoring
  • Records patient's departure and return to the unit in Cerner
  • Observes telemetry, recognizes arrhythmias, and notifies the responsible nurse immediately of any changes / concerns
  • Reports changes in patient's cardiac rhythm to the RN or provider
  • Collects and reports ongoing telemetry data on each patient monitored
  • Appropriately collects data and rhythm strips and places them on patient charts for the primary nurse to analysis
  • Acts in accordance with established procedure in the notification of telemetry nurse regarding arrhythmias
  • Assists the RN in the care of the patient by communicating patient arrhythmias in the department
  • Communicates pertinent information to co-workers during shift report
  • Contacts Bio Med regarding problems with maintenance of monitoring equipment

Demonstrates competency in Unit Secretary role as evidenced by but not limited to:

  • Performs clerical duties to support the nursing staff and patient care
  • Schedules follow-up appointments for post discharge patients
  • Faxes reports to physician offices
  • Notifies physician offices of consults
  • Places physician consults in STAR to populate to the physician's patient list and document appropriately
  • Observes for stat orders in the computer system and notifies the RN and the appropriate department
  • Pays attention to communication orders and acts upon to facilitate completion
  • Enters staff assignments in a timely and accurate manner and updates as needed
  • Maintains patient records per policy (i. e. restock forms, universal chart order)
  • Answers nurse call system, directs caregivers, and assists as appropriate
  • Maintains the nurse call equipment and assigns to appropriate staff
  • Enters intent to discharge in STAR and notifies registration
  • Enters department work requests through the intranet
  • Retrieves lab specimen labels and requisitions and provides to the appropriate staff member
  • Assists with completion of patient trip tickets
  • Fulfills sitters role as needed by the department
  • Performs basic tasks to support patient care (i. e. water pitchers, tissues, blankets, hygiene supplies, etc.)
  • Completes assigned portions of the monthly patient safety rounds
  • Restocks non-medication supply area to support patient care and health care providers
  • Performs monthly checks for outdated supplies and completes supply check log
  • Provides weekly cleaning of computers on wheels and keyboards
  • Ensures computers on wheels are plugged in to maintain functionality

Participates in the development of new staff as evidenced by but not limited to:

  • Actively participates in the orientation including cultural and social integration of new staff

Demonstrates personal accountability as evidenced by but not limited to:

  • Achieves educational credits to meet hospital requirements
  • Shares information obtained at education conferences to staff members
  • Participates in implementing departmental initiatives
  • Conducts self in professional manner in dress, actions, and interpersonal communication
  • Ensures environment of safety for patients, significant others, and coworkers
  • Informs Department Director /
  • Supervisor / Clinical Manager / Assistant Vice President Inpatient Nursing of patient care situations and departmental problems as appropriate
  • Demonstrates effective problem solving skills for clinical and departmental issues

Maintains Healthcare Provider (CPR) certification

Maintains discipline specific basic arrhythmia competency

Qualifications

  • Customer service attitude required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • One year patient care experience preferred
  • Typing and computer skills required
  • Medical Terminology preferred
  • Healthcare Provider (CPR) certification required
    or
    must obtain within 6 months of start date in position
  • Successful completion of Arrhythmia Course within 2 months of start date in position required

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
